A long mixed-surface stage winding through remote forestry roads to the secluded west coast village of Bamfield — home to the southern terminus of the West Coast Trail and spectacular Cape Beale.
Bamfield is a wonderful, secluded little town on the west coast of Vancouver Island. There are multiple beautiful beaches nearby and the southern terminus of the legendary West Coast Trail. Bamfield has a handful of B&Bs that make it a popular overnight destination for hikers and adventurers. Float planes also operate between Bamfield and Ucluelet.
The road to Bamfield mixes paved sections near Lake Cowichan with long stretches of forestry road. Aside from the forest itself, there's not a lot of scenery on the way out — but Bamfield itself is the reward. The return trip can be done the same way, or continue on to Stage 5 toward Port Alberni.
