A relaxed paved stage along the Campbell River waterfront with views of Quadra Island, then through rural Comox Valley farmland to Courtenay. Short and easy — a great chance to slow down and take it in.
Riding out of Campbell River along the waterfront offers fantastic views of Quadra Island across Discovery Passage. The stage follows the ocean for about 15km before transitioning to secondary highways through the rural Comox Valley, passing through smaller communities before arriving in Courtenay.
This is not the most exciting stage of the VIGL, but it serves as a pleasant transition between the remote northern stages and the spectacular coastal roads of Stage 16. The 50th Parallel marker makes for a classic photo stop, and the Comox Valley farmland is a beautiful area worth a slower pace.
Anywhere along the Campbell River waterfront — several coffee shops and restaurants near the marina make it easy to gather.
Dick's Fish and Chips is a local favourite in Campbell River. Many other dining options along the waterfront. Courtenay has extensive options at stage end.
50th Parallel Marker — located at N 50° 00.006, W 125° 13.829. A classic photo stop — the Rotary Club marker is slightly offset from the true line, but well worth the pull-over.
The stage passes through three smaller cities (Campbell River, Courtenay, Comox) with typical tourist and RV traffic. Plan accordingly, especially on summer weekends.
